Jesus’ Resurrection is the reason for our Hope

Matthew 28:1-10

Living life in this world is scary without the hope of Christ.

Living this life without Christ is not worth living.

The women: Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of Jesus and all the rest of the women, life had been shattered and seemingly all hope was gone.

When they left the cross where Jesus was crucified and the tomb where he was buried, they were sad and disappointed.

They thought that Jesus was the Messiah but now he is dead.

Paul said if in this life there is no resurrection then we are most miserable.

Our hope is in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

It does not matter what you are going through, the best is yet to come.

Be encouraged, heartache, pain, sickness, suffering and death is in this world, but Jesus says be encouraged I’ve overcome all of that on resurrection Sunday.

The Christian faith is the only faith with true victory over the trial and tribulation in this life.

Jesus is the founder of the Christian faith who died and lives forever more never to die again.

God knows how to encourage the downtrodden and heavy burdens.

Jesus’ resurrection is the reason for our hope.
  1. The proof for our hope is in the resurrection- vs. 1-4.
  2. The proclamation of our hope is in the resurrection- vs. 5-7.
  3. The joy of our hope is in the resurrection- vs. 8
  4. Fellowship through worshipping the Savior who is our resurrection- vs. 9-10.

It doesn’t matter how dark the days may get!

It doesn't matter how great our struggles are in this life.

Whether in sickness or in health we have hope that is assured.

Guaranteed hope blessed assurance hope!

I.    The proof for our hope is in the resurrection- vs. 1-4.
  1. Resurrection of Jesus is not a myth that we are told to just believe.
  2. The resurrection is a fact proven by eyewitness account.
  • Our faith is not blind faith but with evidence to give us the assurance of faith.
  1. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary saw the crucifixion of Jesus.
  • They saw Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus carry Jesus' dead body into Joseph’s borrowed new tomb.
  • They saw the stone rolled in front of the tomb, and the seal on the stone and the soldiers guarding the tomb.
  1. Early Sunday morning they came to finalize the burial process of the dead body.

God made happen what needed to happen so they could see that Jesus was no longer in the tomb- vs. 2-4.

II.    The proclamation of our hope is in the resurrection vs. 5-7.

“And the angel answered and said unto the women, fear not ye for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.”

  1. God calms the women through the angels.
  • Fear ye not, I know you seek Jesus which was crucified.
  1. God informs the women that he who was dead is now alive.
  • He is not here: for he is risen as he said.
  • Good news for some sad, hurting, and disappointed faithful women.
  1. The proclamation and the evidence of the fact of our faith.
  • Come see the place where the Lord lay.
They heard the good news and saw the evidence of the resurrection.
  • The empty grave is there to prove that he lives.

III.   The joy of our hope is in the resurrection- vs. 8

“And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.”

  1. The women were the first to see the evidence of the resurrection.
  2. The women were the first witnesses to the resurrection.
  • Being faithful to God pays off.
  • God allowed them to know before anyone else knew.
  1. After hearing and seeing joy flooded their hearts.
  • Joy of the Lord makes you move quickly to tell others about Jesus.
  • Joy of the Lord makes you run when you don’t feel like running.

Quickly from the sepulchre is excitement about Jesus!
With fear is to reverence Jesus through worship!
Did run to bring word is excitement
about ministry!

IV.   Fellowship through worshipping the Savior- vs 9-10.

“And as they went to tell his disciples, Jesus met them, saying, all hail. And they came and held him by the feet and worshipped him.”

  1. The women were blessed to fellowship with each other at the grave of Jesus.
  2. They are fellowshipping in their ministry assignment.
  • As they went Jesus met them!
  1. If you want to have an encounter with Jesus, start doing something for Jesus.
  • Ministry workers get to experience his presence.
  1. They left home looking for a dead body and met a risen Savior.
    1. They fell at his feet and worshipped Jesus in his glorified body.

My hope is in the resurrected Savior!

Jesus’ resurrection is the reason for my hope!

I serve a risen Savior, he is in the world today I know that he is living no matter what men may say, I see his hand of mercy and I hear his voice of cheer, just the time I need him he’s always near

He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me, he talks with me, along life’s narrow way. He lives, he lives, salvation to impart. You ask me how I know he lives, he lives within my heart.

His head- filled with knowledge and wisdom- Crown of 72 thorns.

His hands- took two fish and fed 5000- nailed nails in his hands.

His feet- walked on the water- they nailed one on top of one another.

He died for me, and he died for you, but that's how the story ends.

Three days later he rose!
