The Necessity of Fellowship

Heb. 10:24-25

The Christian faith is unlike any other faith.

There are principles that must be exercised to reap all the benefits of the Christian faith.

God has designed the body of Christ through connecting the body one to another and it is dependent upon each other to grow spiritually, and to be a witness to the world.

Our gathering in fellowship is an outward expression of an inward relationship with our Savior, Jesus the Christ.

The more we are together in worship and fellowship the more God through his Spirit pours into our lives.

Fellowship is not just gathering for the sake of gathering but it is an act of obedience, and a demonstration of love to God and God’s people.

Satan is far smarter than we humans being are, he knows if fellowship and worship is not a priority in our lives this will result in a lack of spiritual maturity, where our life is just about us, not about God’s plan and purpose for our lives.

The writer of the Book of Hebrews writes to the church concerning their lack of fellowshipping through worshipping together.

They were not gathering because of persecution from the Jews, who rejected Christ and insisted that every Jew remain under the mandates of the law.

That was them then, but the question to consider today is, why we are not gathering in fellowship to worship our God and Savior who have given us everything.

David says, I have been young and now I am old, and I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread.

In my humble opinion, I think we think fellowship and worship is optional.

But fellowship to the believer is like water for a fish, can’t live without it!

The Necessity of Fellowship
  1. Fellowship is expressed through our unwavering faith in Christ- vs. 23.
  2. Fellowship is expressed through focusing on our brothers and sisters in Christ- vs. 24.
  3. Fellowship is expressed through worshipping together- vs. 25.

We live in a world that is filled with a satanic mind set.

Satan is the major antichrist! His ideals are against everything that God is and everything that God loves.

God loves us more than he loves anything else, therefore Satan hates us more than he hates anything else.

Satan’s goal is to kill our fellowship with one another, knowing that will kill our fellowship with Jesus.

I Cor. 1:9, “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The Necessity of Fellowship

I.     Fellowship is expressed through our unwavering faith in Christ- vs. 23.

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised.

  1. Let us hold fast is fellowship activated.
  • Let us suggest that those who are fellowshipping in faith are helping each other to hold tight to our faith.
  1. Holding fast together makes our holding stronger.
  • Holding fast to the confession we made at salvation.
  • We said then for God I live and for God I’ll die.
  • We said then I’ll go if I have to by myself.
Without wavering is that we can’t be hot for Jesus one day and cold the next day, we’ve got to be on fire for Christ every day!
  1. Fellowship is helping each other not to waver in our faith.
  2. We are to hold fast to our faith because He is faithful that promise.
  • Jesus is faithful to his word!
  • Jesus is faithful to his promise!
  • Jesus is faithful to our fellowship with Him.

II.    Fellowship is expressed through focusing on our brothers and sisters - vs. 24
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.”
Consider is the Gr. word kataneo meaning to fully fix our mind upon.
Provoke is to arouse, to excite, to call into action.
  1. Fellowship is to be thinking about the needs of others.
  • Phil. 2:3b, “But in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”
  1. Fellowship is to encourage each other to love each other.
  • The ministry of loving like God loves us,

Fellowship is the principle that teaches others to love by loving the unlovable!

Fellowship is a necessity if we are going to be who God called us to be!
  1. Fellowship is encouraging each other in ministry.
  2. To provoke unto love and good works!
Those of us who are engaging in ministry are to encourage others through fellowship to get involved in the ministries of the church!

III.   Fellowship is expressed through worshipping together- vs. 25.

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another and so much the more as ye see the day approaching.”

  1. Gathering in fellowship to worship God is the necessity for the church of God.
  • There is no greater need for the body of Christ.
  • Satan works overtime to keep saints out of worship.
  • Satan provides all sort of things to do on Sunday morning.
  1. There is a direct command and a strict warning for part time worshippers.
  • Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves is a double negative in the Greek, (Absolutely, don’t desert worshipping together)
  • Forsaken in the Greek is abandoning, which is to leave something that you need, and you are needed.
  1. Fellowshipping in worship is a powerful source of encouraging the body Christ.
“But exhorting one another”
  • Your presence in worship is a source of encouragement to someone.
  • People are watching who comes to worship God.
  • God is watching who shows up on Sunday!

The Necessity of fellowship!

The Necessity of gathering together in worship!

God does his best work in worship!

The word is at work in worship!

The Holy Ghost is moving in worship!
