The Secret to Prospering is in Discipleship
Psalm 1:1-6
Dr. Edward Bland, 02/7/16

Jesus promised His followers that he has come that we might have life and have it more abundantly

However a careful and honest examination of Scripture one will discover that just being saved does not guarantee a prosperous life spiritually or materialistically

There are some saved folk whose life is miserable: they are struggling emotionally, mentally, financially, and spiritually

But the Lord reveals the secret to a prosperous life in this Psalm
  1. There are two men in this text
  2. One man is godly and one is not
  3. One man loves the word of God and the God of the word
  4. One man loves the world and the ways of the world
  5. The one who loves the word of God is prosperous
  6. The one who loves the world and the ways of the world is no prosperous
Discipleship saturates verse 2, “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he mediate day and night”
This verse sits the tone for being prosperous spiritually and materialistically
  1. Discipleship dictates where one walks, stands, and sits-vs.1
“Blessed is the man that walked not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
  1. Walk not in the counsel of the ungodly means he does not take the advice of wicked or morally corrupt people
  2. Nor standeth in the way of sinners means he does not follow the course of  life of the wicked
  3. Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful meaning doesn’t take the place of a scoffer or mocker
  1. A disciple is a follower of God and will not follow the ungodly
  2. Following God eliminates following the ungodly
  3. Prosperity happens when we follow God
  4. The Word of God guides where we walk, stand, and sit

Because he loves the word of God he meditates in the word day and night
  1. He wakes up in the morning with the word on his mind
  2. He goes to bed at night with the word on his mind
  3. All through the day his mind is on the word and the word is on his mind
