Fellowshipping Through Singing

Isaiah 12:1-5

The power of a song in the life of a believer is unexplainable.

Singing is a method of ministry to the saints and a source of pleasure to God.

The words in a song is a venue that the Holy Spirit can work through to bring sinners to Christ.

Singing is a vital aspect of worship, Psalm 100:2, “Serve the Lord with gladness come before his presence with singing.”

You can worship without singing but singing adds power to worship.
  • Singing encourages the singers.
  • Singing strengthens the hearers.
  • Singing glorifies the Savior.

Singing is an intricate part of praising God, Psalm 69:30, “I will praise the name of God and will magnify him with thanksgiving.”

  • Praising God through singing is an outward expression of love and gratitude to God.
Our ancestors were empowered through fellowship in singing.
  • They had no instruments but their voices: when joined together they were powerful spiritually.
  • They sang of their experiences that were bitter, but the song made their fellowship powerfully sweet.
I am going to lay down my burdens down by the river side!
Walk with me Lord and I will trust in the Lord and so many more.

They sang to each other, and they sang to the Lord!

Singing is how we can minister to each other in fellowship.

Singing is how we can minister to God.

The Bible is filled with songs that helped those who went before us to have some joy as they travel through this world.

Godly songs have drawing power when we are singing for the Lord and not for ourselves.

Zephaniah 3:17, “The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”

The Holy Spirit leads us to sing, Eph 5:18, …but be filled with the Spirit, vs. 19, Speaking to yourself in psalms and hymns and spiritual song, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”

Fellowship through singing requires us singing together not just those who are in the choir stand but the whole congregation.

There is a divine purpose for fellowshipping through singing in this text.

  1. We are to sing together because God sings over us- Zep.3:17
  2. We are to sing together because God is our song- vs. 2-3
  3. Singing is a form of praising God- vs. 4.
  4. Sing unto the Lord for he hath done excellent things- vs. 5.

Saint’s singing together is fundamental to the Christian church.

Singing expresses the joy of our salvation to the world.

God uses singing to be a lifter of our heads.

Singing together to God and for God glorifies his holy name.

  1. Singing in the Lord’s house is exalting his name.
  • The song’s lyrics “I love calling his name make me happy”.
  • I really miss old time church when every voice was being lifted and the Spirit of God filled the house.
