Jesus’ Resurrection Guarantees our Resurrection

I Cor. 15:51-58

Resurrection Sunday is a time to celebrate through reflecting on the perfect work of Salvation that Jesus did just for us.

Our theme: God’s will is to become like Christ in this life is evident throughout scripture.

Through God’s word and the Holy Spirit, we can become morally and spiritually like Jesus.

But we are still in these bodies that causes God’s will for our lives to be a great struggle, simply because sin and death lives in these bodies.

Romans 8:24, “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of death?

Well, the resurrection of Jesus is our deliverance from these bodies, whereas we will be fully like Christ even in these bodies.

I John 3:2, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

Listen, this is the resurrection of the saints when the Lord Jesus shall have the trumpet sound and the dead in Christ shall rise and those remaining alive shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the sky.

Listen, there are two resurrections, I know you all hear my fellow pastors reading from a book at the graveside saying, in the general resurrection. There is no such thing.

John 5:29, “And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation.”

I am glad that God’s will is to become like Christ in this life is extended to after this life being just him, morally, spiritually and physically.

Jesus’ resurrection guarantees our resurrection, so we celebrate resurrection Sunday, we look ahead and praise God for our resurrection of becoming just like Jesus.

  1. We will be changed to Christlikeness, regardless of being alive or physically dead – vs. 51
  2. The ultimate change of becoming like Jesus will only take a moment- vs. 52
  3. The supernatural process of becoming like Christ- vs. 53-56
  4. Praise God for our guarantee of the ultimate change of becoming like Jesus through His resurrection- vs. 57-58

I am gladly excited, that God’s will is for us to become like Jesus in this life and He has guaranteed that after this life we will be just like Jesus bodily.

The guarantee through Jesus’ resurrection is unlike any earthly origin guarantee, God makes the guarantee.

When we get out of these bodies everything literally and spiritually will be alright.

  1. We will be changed to Christlikeness, regardless of being alive or physically dead - vs. 51

“Behold I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.”

  1. The mystery is that God is going to thoroughly change everything that sin and Satan messed up.
  • Because of Adam’s sin of disobedience, his body was plagued with sickness and death.
  1. The mystery is that everyone will not die physically before the change takes place in the resurrection.
  • I Thess. 4:15, “For this we say unto you, by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.”
  1. The guarantee is that we shall all be changed.
  • Phil. 3:20-21, “For our citizenship is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”

  1. The ultimate change of becoming like Jesus will only take a moment - vs. 52

“In a moment in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

  1. God is a right now God, it doesn’t take Him all day to do anything.
  • I believe it was in a moment - He made us!
  • I believe it was in a moment - He saved us!
  • And here in a moment - He will change us!
  1. Our ultimate change of becoming like Christ will take place in a moment in the twinkling of an eye.
    • 1/10 of second, faster than blinking an eye
  2. Our resurrection will happen because of Jesus’ resurrection, the trumpet shall sound, and we will be changed physically.
  3. We will be resurrected with an incorruptible body.
  • All because of what Jesus did, so let praise God for Jesus’ resurrection and praise Jesus for our future resurrection!

  1. The supernatural process of becoming like Christ - vs. 53-56

“For this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality. So, when this corruptible shall have put on incorruptible and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, death is swallowed up in victory.”

  1. Becoming like Christ in this life is us studying and obeying the word of God with the aid of the Holy Spirit.
  2. But, becoming like Christ after this life is all God’s doing, removing the mess of sin in our bodies so there can be no more mess in the body.
  3. This body that Adam gave us will be changed into the resurrected body of Jesus.
  • It doesn’t matter whether we are alive, or dead God will change this body.
I Cor. 15:26, “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.”

Listen, this is Blandology: we get to taunt the grave and death!
  • O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

  1. Praise God for our guarantee of the ultimate change of becoming like Christ - vs. 57

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

  1. Resurrection Sunday is the time to thank God, personally, passionately and powerfully.
  2. Thank God for the victory over everything that defeated you in this body.
  • Victory over sickness
  • Victory over pain and suffering
  • Victory over poverty
  • Victory over sin, death, grave, and Satan.
Somebody ought to make some noise in this place!
