There is a man in this 5th chapter that Satan and sin has ruin his life completely
I.The horrors of life without Christ- vs. 2-5
a.A man controlled by demons- vs. 2
b.A man living in a cemetery- vs3
c.A man helpless and hopeless, though others have tried to help him-vs 3b-4
d.Satan and sin has driven him crazy- vs5
  1. Could not rest day or night running from the mountains to the tombs
  2. Crying day and night with loud howling like a wolf
  3. Cutting himself with stones
  4. Sin and Satan has one goal, that is to destroy, kill and steal
II.Meeting Christ changes everything- vs. 6-13
a.Satan and sin must submit to the power and authority of Jesus’ words- vs. 6
  1. Worship is to bow in submission to a higher authority
b.Salvation is God eradicating sin and Satan control from over our lives- vs. 8
“For he said unto him, come out of the man thou unclean spirit”
c.Only God can handle our sin
d.Only God can change our status from sinner to saints
e.The demon who may control you cannot control God
  1. Legions are many up to 6000
  2. The demons beg Jesus to allow them to go into the pigs
  3. Jesus allows them to enter the pigs and the pigs rather die than live with a demon
f.Jesus delivers us from the power of Satan and sin
III.Life with Christ makes the difference- vs. 14-16
“And they come to Jesus and see him that was possessed with the demon and had the legion, sitting and clothed. And in his right mind and they were afraid.”
  1. Once controlled by Satan and sin but now controlled by God through the Holy Spirit
  2. Sitting is a posture of listening and learning
  1. As Mary sat at the feet of Jesus
  2. Now he is a disciple of Christ
  3. Was running to and from the mountains crying day and night but now he is in Bible class
  4. Clothed physically once was naked living in the cemetery
  5. Clothed is a reference to being clothed in salvation
  1. Isa. 61:10, “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garment of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness”
  2. He is saved covered by the blood of Jesus
  3. He is in his right mind, he is sane
  1. He was insane, he was a crazy man
  2. Sin will drive you crazy
Five things that indicates the difference Jesus made in his life
  1. He is sitting and listening to the word
  2. He is physically dressed and spiritually covered
  3. He is in his right mind
  4. He wants to stay with Jesus
  5. He obeys Jesus’s command to evangelize
Jesus go home to thy family and friends and tell them what great things the Lord hath done for thee and hath had compassion on thee!
He has a message worth telling, he has a testimony that needs to be told!
