The great challenge for young people is decision making

Matthew 7:13-16

God has invested so much in the lives of children, adolescences, teenagers and adults

He has provided everything all of us need to live the best life

Young people desire to enjoy life to the fullest

And God’s plan and desire is for young people to know that their best life is in Christ

It is not in this world system or the hip hop culture of today

But in order to find the life where blessing from God are flowing it starts with choices and good decision making

Young Thug the rapper is in a world of trouble, facing serious prison times because of the words in his rap music

There are a lot of voices in the world and the question is whose voice are we to listen to

Teenagers challenge of the day is: which way is the right way?

What religion is the right religion?

What church is the right church to attend?

Why should I go to church?

Is God real? Is there a heaven or a hell?

Well, children, adolescence, teenagers and adults, God is good and great and has given us the answer to help us  make the right decision

Choices, choices, choices a plethora of decisions to make

The great challenge of decision making

I.     Listen for the voice of God
II.    Understand the instructions from God

III.   Follow the way of God

Young people I understand the pressure of being young and poppin

I understand the attraction of the bright lights, the fame and glory of this world

God says you can have all of that and the way to get it is to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you (Matt. 6:33)

But it starts with making the right decision!

I.     Listen for the voice of God- vs. Matt. 5:2
       a.  And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying
       b.  To hear God’s voice is to read God’s word
  • Awana is important it gives opportunities to hear God’s voice
  • Sunday school is important it gives opportunities to hear God’s voice
  • Personal study time is important it gives opportunities to hear God’s voice
       c.  There is no religion that God speaks through other than Christianity which is not a religion it’s a relationship with the God of heaven
  • These people who are saying Christianity is a white man’s religion, that is a lie straight from the gates of hell
  • Vicious lies such as we are worshiping a God who can’t relate to our culture
  • Destructive lies that we are serving a white God. Let me help the misguided, God is Spirit, He does not have color or gender
       d.  How do we know that Christianity is the voice of God- Heb. 1:1-2, “God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, who he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds
  • Jesus is the voice of God

2ndly to make the right decision…

II.    Understand the instructions from God- vs. 15-16
“Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves, ye shall know them by their fruits”
       a.  Be aware of false prophets
  • Be aware is to be on guard
  • Be aware is to listen for things that contradict the word of God and God’s plan for your life
       b.  Be aware of wolves in sheep clothing
  • The wolf pretend to be a sheep in order to eat the sheep
       c.  Understand ravening wolves are extortionist, robbers out to take advantage of you
       d.  The very essence of this culture is a “dog eat, dog eat world”
       e.  The instruction is to be careful to whom you are listening to

Lastly to make the right decision…

III.   Follow the way of God

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction and many there be which go in there at: because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life and few there be that find it” Matt. 7:13-14
       a.  The right decision is to follow the way of God
       b.  The passage reveals two gates to choose to enter
1.  One gate is a narrow gate
2.  The other gate is a wide gate

Now we arrive at the crust of our topic matter, “The great challenge for young people is decision making”

Which gate is the right gate for me?

The wide gate is a crowded gate; many chose this gate because of the temporary seemingly good time

The wide gate is the road many choose to travel

The wide gate is attractive because there are no restrictions
  • You can do what you want to do when you want to do it
  • Drugs, alcohol, sex outside of marriage, crime, fast money, homosexuality
  • Everything God says don’t do is on this road
Notice: God says this wide gate leads to destruction and many enter in are headed for:
  • Physical destruction
  • Mental destruction
  • Emotional destruction
  • Spiritual destruction
But the narrow gate is the right decision to make:
  • It is not a crowded gate
  • There are guidelines choosing this gate
  • Through the narrow gate you are not to live for self but to live for Christ
  • Vs. 14, “Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life and few there be that find it”
       c.  Jesus is the gate, He is the right decision
  • Jesus says I am the way the truth and the life no man come to the Father but by me
  • The thief cometh not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy: I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly
Young people don’t make the wrong decision and enter through the wrong gate and travel the wrong road

The broad gate leads to destruction
The narrow gate leads to life

Jesus is right way and the only way to real success

Jesus loves you like no one else can

Jesus is the friend that sticks closer than a brother

If you give Jesus your heart he will never break it

Jesus will never let you down

Make Jesus your choice

Decide to follow Him and you will never go wrong

God so loved you that he gave his only his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life

       1.  Listen for the voice of God!
Understand the instructions from God!
Follow the way of God!
