Focusing on the Ultimate Freedom

Exod. 14:13-25

I believe all of us would agree that freedom is not free

Freedom is the costliest thing in life that all of creation craves

As we prepare to celebration Independence Day, July 4, 1775 this land where we now reside was once controlled by Britain but the thirteen colonies now known as America won her freedom on that day and declared her independence

France donated a stature on Staten Island, called Lady Liberty

America the land of the free. But there were then and now some who were not free really

All of us were born slaves to the most powerful slave owner known to mankind, SIN

We were born, being controlled by our urges, our desires, our flesh

Three types of slavery:

  • Physical bondage
  • Mental bondage
  • Spiritual bondage

We focus more on the physical more so than the mental or spiritual

To focus on Christ is to focus on ultimate freedom

John 8:32, “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”

John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free you shall be free indeed”
In our lesson today Israel is physically, mentally and spiritually in slavery

  • They are physically held captive by Pharoah in the land Egypt
  • They are mentally settled on being there
  • They are spiritually void of an intimate relationship with God

But they are God’s chosen people, whom God has promised two things:
     1.  The promise land, Palestine
     2.
The Messiah who would save them physically, mentally and spiritually
God’s focus for them and us is ultimate freedom through Christ

In our text God delivers them physically, to saved them spiritually

God called Moses and prepared him to deliver Israel from slavery down in Egypt

God uses Moses’ stick to demonstrate His power to Israel and Pharoah

God used nine plagues, blood, frogs, lice, flies, cattle, boils, hail, locusts, darkness to get Pharoah’s attention and the last plague; the death of the first born to free Israel from Egypt

Focusing on Ultimate Freedom

I.     God is the giver of ultimate freedom- vs. 13
II.    God is the fighter who wins our freedom- vs. 14-16
III.   God is the way maker to freedom- vs. 21-25

Know this, freedom is not free

There have always been and always will be freedom blockers

God is the ultimate freedom fighter

Moses could not free Israel from Egypt

God told Moses I am come down to deliver Israel from Egyptian’s slavery

And here God is doing what He said he would do

I.     God is the giver of ultimate freedom- vs. 13
“And Moses said unto the people fear ye not, standstill and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today ye shall see them again no more forever”
       a.  God prepared Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt
       b.  God prepared Moses to speak for Him
       c.  God uses people in his plan of freedom and the people whom God uses knows they are not the emancipator
       d.  Moses tells Israel three things while they are panicking
            1.  Fear ye not
  • I am thy shield (Gen. 15:1)
            2.  Standstill
  • Psa. 46:10, Be still and know that I am God
  • To set oneself, to place one self
  • Take a seat
            3.  See the salvation of the LORD
  • To see with the eye
  • Salvation is the Hebrew Yeshuah
  • Salvation is your deliverance
Yeshuah is the Hebrew name for Jesus, So Jesus is the salvation of God
Egypt is type of bondage of slavery, God says, you shall see no more

God came to deliver ultimate freedom, which consist in this case of physical freedom and spiritual freedom

God will deliver at times people with no faith from physical bondage

God will never deliver any one spiritual freedom without faith in Jesus the Christ

II.    God is the fighter who wins our freedom- vs. 14-16
“The LORD shall fight for you and ye shall hold your peace”

a.  God promise to fight our battles if we just stand still
  • The be quiet and stand still is to trust God
  • Spiritual battle requires spiritual fighting
  • Physically battles require physical weapons
       b.  God uses Moses as his instrument to fight this physical battle
  1. Pharoah’s army is physical
  2. The Red Sea is physical
Vs. 16, “lift up thy rod and stretch out thine hand over the sea and divide it and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea”

       c.  The battle is really not ours it’s the LORD, God uses us in his battle but its really to bring glory to Himself
Vs. 18, “And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots and upon his horse men”

       d.  When God uses us in his battle, He provides protection- vs. 19-20
  • Theophanic Angel is the pre-incarnate Christ
  • The Same one who spoke to Moses out of the burning bush

Lastly

III.   God is the way maker to freedom- vs. 21-25
“The LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night and made the sea dry land and the waters were divided"
       a.  God moves whatever blocks our freedom
  • God open doors that no man can closed
  • God close doors that no man can open
       b.  The LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind
  • It’s a physical blockage but God uses super natural power to move that which blocked Israel from crossing
       c.  God made a wet ground a dry ground, a paved highway in the middle of the Red Sea
  • God will make a path to freedom
       d.  God made water that is liquid and made it a solid wall unto Israel on the right and on the left
  • God use the water to protect Israel from the water
       e.  God drew the enemy into the sea pursuing Israel
  • God trouble Pharoah’s army in the red sea
  • The dry land returns to wet land and the mud pulls the wheel off all 600 chariots
  • The Egyptian realized that the God of Israel is fighting for Israel’s freedom
The Egyptians said, let us flee from the face of Israel for the LORD fights for them!

We did not receive ultimate freedom on July 4, 1775 but some 2000 years ago, JESUS, the ultimate warrior, came to set us free

Whom the Lord set free is free indeed!

Bullets could not free me
Armies could not free me

The blood of Jesus has made me free!!!
