Focusing on what God has done

Ephesians 1:1-6

The book of Ephesians is an excellent book to help us as we move closer to fulfilling the vision for our church, “A spiritually healthy church where Christ is seen and heard” and our purpose of “Reaching the world with the message of Christ to change lives.”

How are we going to accomplish our purpose and make our vision a reality? By keeping the great commandment and the great commission

Great Commandment
Jesus said unto him, thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second thy shall love thy neighbor as thyself. Matthew 22:37-39)
  • Loving God is worship
  • Loving thy neighbor is ministry
Great Commission
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen (Matt. 28:19-20)
  • Go ye is evangelism
  • Baptizing them is fellowship
  • Teaching them is discipleship
Ephesians is a good book to help us to focus on Christ to become more like Christ

Ephesians deals with relationships within the body of Christ
1.  Our relationship to God
2.  Our relationship to each other

Our position in Christ, our walk with Christ compels us to focus on what God has already done

The Book of Ephesian is loaded with reasons and the motivation to focus on what God has already done in our lives
I.     Focus on the blessing of salvation- verse 3
II.    Focus on the blessing of transformation- verse 4
III.   Focus on the blessing of adoption- verse 5
IV.   Focus on the blessing of his grace- verse 6
Being focused on Christ helps me not to focus of anyone or anything else
Satan plan is to focus on what’s not right and who’s not right

Satan was successful in persuading Eve to focus on the one tree God prohibited and ignored all the other trees God gave permission to eat of

When I think about all that God has done it brings joy to my heart!

I.     Focus on the blessing of Salvation- verse 3
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ”
Blessed is the Gr. eulogetos to speak well, to boast, to praise
       a.  Praise be to God for his Son
       b.  Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessing
       c.  Spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ
  • The blessing of salvation
  • The origin of the blessing is God
  • The source of the blessing is Christ
  • The substance of the blessing is heavenly
       d.  Focus on the fact that we are already blessed
  • Too blessed to be stress
  • Too blessed to be depressed
  • God has already blessed us with heavenly blessings
  • We have to position ourselves to receive our blessings
II.    Focus on the blessing of Transformation- verse 4
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love”
       a.  God chose us and called us for himself
  • We are precious in the sight of God
  • We are special
  • We are valuable
       b.  God chose us before the foundation of the world
  • Before there was a here or a there God chose us
  • Before God created the world, He close us
  • God chose me in spite of me
       c.  God has a plan and a purpose for our lives
       d.  That we should be holy
  • Holy is the Gr hagios to be set apart for God use only
  • To be separated from the world, we are to be different
       e.  That we should be without blame before him in love
“For whom he did foreknow he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son” (Rom 8:29)
  • God chose us to make us like Jesus
III.   Focus on the blessing of Adoption- verse 5
“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesu Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will”
       a.  Predestination has to do with the fore knowledge of God
       b.  God chose us before we chose him
       c.  Adoption is to bring someone into the family
  • To be born into a family is one thing but to be adopted is special
  • Who enjoy the privileges of son ship
  • Who receives an  inheritance
I Peter 1:4, “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled and that fadeth not away reserved in heaven for you”
  • Who enjoys intimate relationship
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12)

IV.    Focus on the blessing of his Grace- verse 6
“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved”
       a.  Praise God for the glory of grace
       b.  Giving of his grace
       c.  Receiving of his grace makes us accepted
       d.  Acceptable in the beloved
It is because of God’s grace that we have the blessings from God
Grace is God’s unmerited favor
Grace is God’s underserved love that he showers me in

Everything God has done, is doing and will do is because of God’s grace

I thank God for his grace
  • Love is in his grace
  • Peace is in his grace
  • Joy is in his grace
Jesus on Calvary’s cross in the 9th hour cried it is finished

Grace magnified on Golgotha Hill

Grace helps me to focus on what God has already done

Grace keeps my eyes on Calvary
Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now I am found was blind but now I see
