Focusing on Christ brings peace to your life. Isaiah 26:3-4

The absence of peace is the presence of strife, anxiety and stress

Where there is no inward peace we have outward distress

We have seen and heard cliches such as too blessed to be stressed written on T-shirts and other things and the one wearing the T-shirt can’t sleep at night and has no peace during the day

Peace seems to be hard to find for many believers in the Lord Jesus Christ

Even though our Lord Jesus Christ has declared in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”

Eph. 2:15, “For he is our peace…”

Since all that is absolutely true why are we not enjoying the peace of God

Why is this peace seemingly so elusive that God has already given?

Well, the reason is the enemy wants to steal your peace and cause your life to be a living hell

However, the truth of the matter is Satan cannot steal your peace but he can make you think he has

Listen: this is how Satan causes us to think he has stolen the peace God says we have. Satan causes us to focus on harmful and hurtful things

  • Satan causes us to focus on what we don’t have

  • Satan causes us to focus on the storm rather than I am on my way out

  • Satan causes us to focus on the danger all around us rather that the God who protects us

  • Satan causes us to focus on us and our inability rather than God’s ability

Well, Isaiah 26:3 tells us the benefit of focusing on Christ brings peace to your life

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee”

“Trust ye in the LORD forever: for the LORD Jehovah is everlasting strength”

          I.     Focusing on the promise of peace brings peace- vs. 3

II.    Focusing on uninterrupted peace from God- vs.3

III.   Focusing on the peace from God is faith being practice-vs 4

Well here we are the last Sunday in January and for some of us peace is not present in our lives

We are worried and restless about many things

We can’t sleep at night and our days are filled with rain and some pain

The reason is we are not focusing of Christ who gives perfect peace in the storms of life

Isaiah gives us the remedy for our frustration and irritations of not enjoying the peace that God has already given

          I.     Focusing on the promise of peace brings peace- vs. 3

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee”

a.  The promise of peace is a promise we need to claim

b.  Not the world’s peace but God’s peace

  • John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you my peace I give unto you : not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be trouble”

  • Phil. 4:7, “And the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”

c.  The promise of peace is specific or conditional

“Whose mind is stayed on thee”

  • Mind that is stayed on God is translated one who leans and rely of God for everything

  • Everything means everything!

Greater Hopewell if we are going to focus on Christ and live in his peace he promised we have to lean and rely on HIM

There is an old song of the church: we’ve come this far by faith leaning on the Lord trusting in his Holy word he’s never failed me yet

II.    Focusing on uninterrupted peace from God- vs. 3b

“Thou will keep him in perfect peace”

a.  Perfect peace is perpetual peace from God

b.  Perfect peace is complete and pure peace with no mixture of worry, anxiety or any negativity

c.  Perfect peace is inward peace even when outward unrest exist

d.  Perfect peace is peace that surpasses human understanding

  • Daniel was cast into the lion’s den and it has been said that he slept all night long, that’s perfect peace

e.  Perfect peace can’t be interrupted by the storms of life, nor the chaos or clutter in this life

f.  Pandemic can’t move the peace of God from a child of God who is leaning and relying on God

  • The reason: God is the keeper of us and our peace

  • Thou will keep him in perfect peace

  • Keep is the Heb. word naw-tsar means to guard

Greater Hopewell, we can focus on the promise of uninterrupted peace from God because we have a security team of three who guards us and our peace:

  1. God the Father

  2. God the Son

  3. God the Holy Spirit

Lastly…

III.   Focusing on the peace from God is faith being practice- vs. 4

“Trust ye in the LORD for ever for in the LORD Jehovah is everlasting strength”

a.  To focus on Christ is an act of faith in God

b.  When we are focusing on Christ we are practicing our faith

c.  To focus on Christ is to trust in the LORD

  • Trust in Jehovah is to have supreme confidence in God

  • We can trust and focus on the LORD forever

  • 23rd Psalm “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me”

d.  We can focus of the peace from God because of who God is

  • Jehovah is everlasting strength

  • Jehovah is the ROCK of AGES

Greater Hopewell as we focus on Christ to become more like Christ we are enabled to live in the peace God has given us

I claim my peace because of Who God is:

The Rock of my salvation

The Rock of Ages

He is my Rock in a weary land
