We will begin a series of preaching and teaching on our five principles of spiritual growth extracted from the great commission and commandment
  • Commitment to evangelism
  • Commitment to fellowship
  • Commitment to discipleship
  • Commitment to worship
  • Commitment to ministry

Our topic today: Commitment to the great commission is a commitment to evangelism

How does one develop a commitment for the things of God?

Three things must take place to form a commitment to God
  1. A cognitive decision
  2. Hearts desire
  3. A will of determination

Are you tired of not fully enjoying the benefits of being a Christian?

The solution is a commitment to what God is committed to

A commitment to evangelism will grow us spiritually and numerically

The great commission found in Matthew 28:18-20
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observed all things whatsoever I have commanded you, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

I.     Evangelism is a commandment from God
II.    Evangelism is authorized by God
III.   Evangelism is God’s plan to grow His church

Evangelism is the thing that Satan works night and day convincing Christian not to do

Satan knows that if the church does what God said to do then the church would truly be the army that God said in Matthew 16:18, “And I say also unto thee that thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my church; and gates of hell shall not prevail against it”

  • The church is on the offense snatching people from the kingdom of Satan into the kingdom of God’s church

I.     Evangelism is a commandment from God- vs. 19
“Go ye therefore and teach all nations”
  1. Go ye is an imperative verb
  • Evangelism is not a gift, it’s a commandment from God
  • Evangelism is not optional
  • Evangelism is not something you can choose not to do
  • Those who disobey God’s commandment will be judged
  1. Evangelism is an individual command to every believer
  • 2 Cor. 5:20, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ stead, be ye reconciled to God”
  1. Evangelism is us continuing God’s work that Jesus begun on earth

Go ye is the Gr. Verb por-yoo-om-hee (poreouomai)
  • Denotes a military command
  • And as you go

II.    Evangelism is authorized by God- vs. 18
“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth, go ye therefore”

Power is the Gr word exousia authoritative power
  1. Our commander and chief have authorized us to share the good news of the gospel
  • The commandment and authority are not the pastor but Jesus
  1. The authority includes the power to evangelize
  • Delegated authority and power
  1. Those who think you can’t God says you can
  • Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you and ye shall be witnesses unto me…”
  1. God is depending on us the evangelize the world we live in

III.   Evangelism is God’s plan to grow his church
“Go ye therefore and teach all nations”

Nations is the Gr. word ethnos meaning people
  1. Fulfilling the great commission will build a great church
  2. God’s plan is to use people to bring people to Himself
  3. God’s plan of evangelism is to reach all ethnicities and nationalities
  4. The first century church grew exponentially because the people went everywhere evangelizing (Acts 8:4)
  5. The demoniac who lived in the cemetery after being saved and he wanted to follow Jesus but the Lord told him to go back home and tell your family and friends what great things the Lord has done (Mark 5:19)

God needs you and I to tell the world about a savior who came from glory to save a wretch like us

Wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life

If God has done anything for you tell somebody about his goodness and his grace
