Restoration to Ministry by God (Part 3)
Psalm 51:13-19
David has experienced the consequences of his sin in a painful and debilitating way.
David has confessed his sins before God.
David has been cleansed from his sin.
The question that looms in my mind, is why did God restore a sinner like David who had a total moral collapse?
Was it because David was a man after God’s own heart?
Was it because David really repented of his sin?
Was it because sin had ruined David’s life?
Was it because David knew how to pray well?
All of those are good reasons for our human minds, who think that life is about us.
But I believe theologically it was more about God’s purpose and plan for David’s life.
I believe God would not allow Satan to get the last word concerning a child of His.
Psalm 23:3, “He restoreth my soul, he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
He restoreth my soul is to restore my life.
God told Jeremiah the prophet while you were still in your mother’s womb, I purposed your life.
My brothers and sisters, the deep theological reason God restores our lives is because of his purpose for our lives!
God made David and gave him a purpose bigger than David.
It’s not just about what we do, its about God’s purpose for our lives.
God restores our life to give us a second chance to renew our commitment to God.
Our theme: commitment to the great commandment and commission.
In the text David renews his commitment to God.
Verse 13, “Then will I teach transgressors thy ways and sinners shall be converted unto thee."
David said my commitment was weak and flimsy but if you restore the joy of my salvation and uphold me with the power of the Holy Spirit.
My commitment to you will be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the LORD.
David is saying give me another chance and I will get it right!
David response to God’s goodness toward us even when we have been very bad toward him.
David’s response to God’s restoration is to serve him through ministry, worship, evangelize, discipleship and fellowship.
David’s response to God’s restoration is a renewed commitment.
When God brings us up out of muck and the miry clay and established our going and place our feet on a solid rock and put a new song in our mouth.
Renewed commitment is what God expects from us.
We too like David ought to commit to God as an act of gratitude for his grace and his mercy he has given to us.
David says stuff and things do not please you if it had I would have given it.

God really can’t use us until he breaks us, He has to break our will and his will become our will.
Renewed fellowship takes place when we trust and obey there is no other way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey.
Renewed fellowship is to renew the love relationship with Jesus.

What a friend we have in Jesus all our sins and grief to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
