Faith rooted and grounded in the resurrection
I Cor. 15:1-11;17-20
Dr. Edward Bland, 04/1/18
There were false teachers in the Corinthians church teaching that there is no resurrection from the dead
Paul uses faith, facts and practical realities to prove that Jesus was dead, buried and rose from the dead
As we celebrate Easter there is a lot of unbeliever able things people believe without any facts, such as
  1. A bunny rabbit that lays eggs
  2. Life starts with an egg
But there are facts supporting the resurrection of Jesus Christ
  1. An empty grave, eyewitnesses, Bible prophecy, and changed lives
Paul declares to the saints in Corinth that the Christian faith is rooted and grounded in the resurrection of Jesus Christ
  1. Faith in the power of salvation through the resurrection- vs. 1-4
  1. The gospel is the resurrection of Jesus Christ
  2. The gospel provides our standing in Christ
  3. The resurrection the bases for our salvation
  4. The gospel defined- vs. 3-4
  1. Christ died for our sins
  2. Christ was buried
  3. Christ rose the third day according to the Scriptures
  1. Faith in the proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ- vs. 5-7
  1. Peter saw the resurrected Christ
  2. The eleven disciples saw the resurrected Christ
  3. Over 500 brethren saw the resurrected Christ
  4. James the half brother of Jesus saw the resurrected Christ
  5. All of the apostles saw the resurrected Christ
  6. Last of all he seen by Paul on the Damascus road
  1. Faith in the power of the transformational ministry through the resurrection- vs. 10-11
  1. Grace bestowed through the resurrection of Christ
  2. Resurrection power for personal transformation
  3. Resurrection power for abundant ministry
  1. But I labored more abundant than they all yet not I but the grace of God which was with me
  1. Resurrection is the reason we preach- vs. 11
  1. Christ’s resurrection is the message we preach
  2. Resurrection is the power of preaching
  3. Resurrection is the reason we can believe
  1. The assurance of faith through the resurrection of Jesus- vs. 17-20
  1. The consequences of not believing the resurrection
  1. Your faith is vain
  2. You are yet in your sin
  3. Those who have died in Christ are perished
  1. The resurrection of Christ makes life worth living
“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable”
  1. But now Christ is risen from the dead and become the first fruit of them that slept
  1. The logic is since Christ is the first to rise then there are others who will rise
The resurrection is proof that Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords
The grave is empty
Death is defeated
Satan has lost
We have the victory through Jesus Christ
