Focusing on the true meaning of the resurrection

I Cor. 15:45-47, 51-58

As we focus of Christ, we must focus on what he has done to change our lives and our destination

As we focus of Christ we must focus on the true biblical meaning of the resurrection

The resurrection is the foundation of our faith in Jesus the Christ

The resurrection is the power for our salvation and our transformation

The resurrection is the reason we are who we are and we are where we are

Without the resurrection I would still be in my sin and on my way to hell

Without the resurrection I would have to live in this body of pain, suffering and death

Without the resurrection I would not have a place to spend eternity

Without the resurrection my life would be empty without purpose and meaning

The resurrection is God proving He is God and has power over life and death

Paul writes to the church at Corinth which has lost her way through false and fake teaching declaring that there is no resurrection for the dead

Verse 19, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ we are of all men most miserable”

I thank God that there is evidence and proof of my salvation, I am saved by Jesus being raised from dead the third day morning after being viciously and cruelly put to death

Focusing on the true meaning of the resurrection

I.     The resurrection was God’s plan from the beginning- vs. 45-47

II.    The resurrection provides our ultimate transformation- vs. 51-54

III.   The resurrection is our confirmation of victory over death, sin and Satan- vs. 55-58

The resurrection is the greatest event in the history of the world

The resurrection is the most investigated event in the history of the world

The resurrection of Jesus separates Christianity from all religions

  • Buddhism, Buddha died and is still dead
  • Hinduism and its many god are dead
  • Islam’s god Allah and Mohammad is dead
  • Moses is dead those who are still trying to keep the Law

We needed someone to fix what Adam messed up and God sent His Son, Jesus to redeem mankind from the penalty of sin

Being a Christian does not mean we are perfect and has it all together, it means we are forgiven and covered by God’s amazing grace, and the best is yet to come

Focusing on the true meaning of the resurrection

I.     The resurrection was God’s plan from the beginning- vs. 45-47

“And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit”

         a.  God knew that Adam would fail  through disobedience
         b.  Adam was made perfect in the image and likeness of God
  • Other words he had the ability to be righteous like God
  • God gave him free will and he chose to follow his wife rather than God
         c.  Adam chose to follow his wife who chose to take the advice of Satan

The first Adam God made a living soul- life

The last Adam was made a quickening spirit- life giving

When God made He knew he would have to send Jesus

Verse 47, “The first Adam is of the earth, earthly: the second Adam is the Lord from heaven”

God’s plan from creation was to send His Son to die for our sins which separated us from God

Gen. 3:15, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel”

Secondly…

II.    The resurrection provides our ultimate transformation- vs. 51-54

“Behold I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed, in a moment in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed”

       a.  We are all living in a house that is doomed for demolition
       b.  The place that houses our spirit and soul is falling apart and some of us don’t even know it
       c.  When Adam sinned all of his descended inherited a demolition crew who lives inside of us
  • The sin nature
  • The wages of sin is death
  • This sin is not something we are doing, it is who we are
  • Rom. 6:23, “All have sinned”
  • Rom. 5:12, “By one man sin entered and  death passed upon all men
       d.  All of us in this place, young and not so young are is desperate need of a change of another building

This verse tells us a lot about what the resurrection provides for us personally

       1.  We shall not all physically die
       2.  But we shall all be changed
  • It’s a physical change, Gr. word allasso
  • We have a spiritual change at salvation but in the resurrection our bodies will be changed
       3.  The change is quick, “twinkling of an eye” 10th of second
       4.  The trumpet signal the end of this age
  • This is not the last trumpet in the Revelation 11:15 but the last trumpet in I Thess. 4:16
       5.  Two groups. The dead in Christ shall be raised incorruptible. And 2nd group those who are alive shall be changed (Ultimate transformation)

III.   The resurrection is our confirmation of victory over death, sin and Satan- vs. 55-58

“But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”

       a.  Everybody want to be a winners and through Jesus ‘ resurrection we are all victorious
       b.  The resurrection is confirmation that we are a part of the winning team
       c.  In this life we may lose some battles but we can’t lose the war
  • We may lose the health battle
  • We may lose the financial battle
  • We may lose the social battle
  • We may lose some battles to Satan
       d.  We may physically die and be buried in the grave but this death is not final and the grave cannot hold us
  • O death where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory?
The resurrection means we have the victory over everything that once cause us pain and suffering

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord

I.     The resurrection was God’s plan from the beginning- vs. 45-47
II.    The resurrection provides our ultimate transformation- vs. 51-54
III.   The resurrection is our confirmation of victory over death, sin and Satan- vs. 55-58

I am glad Jesus had me on his mind when I didn’t have him on my mind

Jesus came looking for me just to save me
